Project Description

The LFAS InsideOut Project has been an in depth exploration of the Langley Fine Arts School community identifying who we are and why the Arts matter. Through a long process of discussion, experimentation and critiques, students have explored various ways to visually describe who we are.

Here is what the students came up with for the LFAS InsideOut Project:
  • The portraits will be in B/W.
  • The portraits will be of students from LFAS representing all levels from grade one through grade twelve sharing their art.
  • The students will wear a simple shirt without logos or text.
  • The portraits will be taken from the waist up.
  • Students can hold something that relates to their art, or not.
  • The expressions will be positive, thoughtful, enthusiastic, fun, expressive of their art...
  • The poses will be expressive of their art, or exemplify dedication, and enthusiasm towards their art.
  • The portraits will be evenly lit as if they were outside.
  • The backgrounds will be simple, not distracting, but will be cut out when presented on the school walls.
Students are photographing two or more LFAS student models using B/W film and development. Each student is to print a contact sheet and an 8 x 10 print that will be displayed in the school hallway. Each of the final selections from each photo shoot will be posted here. The LFAS community will be encouraged to vote on the prints to decide the mural project images.

Costs and funding for this endeavour have not yet been defined. Any donations will be gratefully welcomed and can be directed to the Langley Fine Arts School 604-888-3113 or email dusher@sd35.bc.ca
